De La Salle College Macroom

       Drama and Debating

In recent times, the school has branched out in its extra-curricular activities and embraced the worlds of drama and debating.

A presentation of Shakespeare's Macbeth was put on in the school by our Fifth Year students of 2002. It was very well received by the staff and students alike, and it was decided to enter it into the Cork Schools' Shakespearean  Drama competition. This was held in the Cork Arts Theatre and provided a resounding victory for De La Salle Macroom.

The First Years of last year staged an enchanting version of the J.R. Tolkien classic "The Hobbit" at the end of the 2002 school year. It was presented to the entire school and received  well-deserved high praise.

In 2003, the school repeated its success in the Cork Schools' Shakespearean competition. Again, MacBeth was the play staged, but both the cast and the scenes were different.

Two teams were entered in the Muskerry Inter-schools debating competition last year, and both performed with distinction. The team of Michael Lucey, Nicky O' Leary, James Delaney and Conor Hurley eventually won the competition out.
