April 29th:

Narrow Defeat for U-16 Team:

Our U-16 footballers went close in the semi-final of the Cork Colleges championship today, losing out by 2 points To Mayfield Community School.

April 23rd:

Mixed Fortune in Table Tennis:

Our U18 table tennis team of Joe Kelleher, Stephen Kelleher and Darragh Foley retained their West Cork championship title today in Dunmanway. After a number of titanic struggles, our U-15 team of Kevin Payne, Barry Kelleher and Cian Holden were pipped into second place in their event.

April 22nd:

U-16's Have Good Win:

Our U-16 football team had a decisive victory over Glanmire today in the first round of the Cork Schools championship.

April 21st:

Off to Italy!

30 of our First Year students boarded the bus to Dublin airport this morning as they began their trip to Marcallo Con Cassone in Italy. This is the "return leg" of the cultural exchange with the Istituto Compresivo "De Amicis" near Milan.

April 18th:

U-16½ footballers into Final!

Our U-16½ football team reached the final of the Munster championship today with a comfortable victory over Youghal CBS.

April 16th:

U-14's Have To Go Again!

A last gasp point denied our footballers a win against St. Aidans of Cork city in the quarter-finals of the Munster U-14 championship today, played in Macroom. The score of 3 goals and 10 points each means that we face a replay, which will have to wait until our First Years return from their Italian exchange.

April 15th:

Hollywood Comes to De la Salle!

A lot of diversion is expected in the school tomorrow when a film crew from RTE will be recording an article on 5th Year student Stephen Walsh's archery exploits. It is expected that several scenes of school life will be shot. The piece will air as part of the "Pobal" programme on RTE 1 on Sunday 27th April at 5.25pm.

April 14th:

Great victory for Hurlers:

Our U-14½ hurling team had an easy victory over St. Fachtna's of Skibbereen today in the first round of Cork Colleges championship.

Adieu to our French Friends:

Another successful exchange came to an end when the 49 students and their teachers from Bordeaux boarded the coach in the early hours of the morning on their way to Dublin airport and home. Bon Voyage!

Our Irish Examiner general knowledge quiz team went out of the contest tonight when a close-up third behind Kanturk.

Great Victory for Footballers:

Our U-16½ football team had another terrific win today when they beat Tramore CBS 4-12 to 2-4 in the Munster championship.

French Students Arrive:

49 students from Ecole St. Genes, Bordeaux touched down in Shannon today on the return leg of the annual school exchange programme, which is in its 15th year.

Examiner Quiz Fixture:

The next round of the Irish Examiner quiz will take place on Thursday, 10th April in Jury's Hotel Cork.

Presentation of Cheques:

The annual MCA appeal, carried out by the Fourth Years over Christmas, realised a marvellous €3,200. The various charities were presented with cheques in the school hall today.

Comfortable Victory for Footballers:

Our U-16½ football team had an easy Munster championship win today in Kilmurray against Coláiste an Chroí Naofa, Carraig na bhFear.

"Ciao" to our Italian Friends:

The Italian students and their teachers who were on an exchange with our school began their journey home this morning; we wish them "buono viaggio".

March 10th:

Parents' Association Quiz News:

The annual general knowledge quiz run by the Parents' Association for the Primary and Secondary schools in the area will take place in the school on Thursday next, 13th March, starting at 7.30pm.

Funds Rolling in for Sri-Lankan Appeal:

A terrific response is under way in the school to the Sri-Lankan orphanage appeal. On Saturday next, many of our First and Second Year students (and some of the teachers!) will take part in a walk around Macroom, and it is looking like they will raise thousands of euro for the project.

March 6th:

Examiner Quiz Team Win Again:

De la Salle sailed through into the third round of the Irish Examiner general knowledge quiz tonight in Dunmanway when we defeated Mercy Heights, Skibbereen and Mount St. Michael, Rosscarbery. De la Salle's winning score was 106 points.

March 5th:

"Benvenuti" to our Italian Visitors!

19 students and their teachers arrived in Macroom tonight on the first leg of the school's exchange with the Istituto Compresivo "De Amicis" in Marcallo con Casone, Milan. The students will be hosted by parents of our First Years, 30 of whom will travel to Italy in April for the return leg of the exchange.

Victory for Table Tennis Team:

Our table tennis team made it two wins from two in Div 1 of the Cork Schools league today when gaining a 4-2 home victory over Coláiste Choilm, Ballincollig. De la Salle remain top of the league. Team: Joe Kelleher; Darragh Foley; Stephen Kelleher; Barry Kelleher

Disappointment for Maths Quiz Team:

Despite a valiant effort, our maths quiz team were unplaced in the All-Ireland competition held in U.C.C. today.

Opening Victory for U-16½ Footballers:

Our U-16½ football team comfortably defeated the Patrician College, Mallow, today, in the first round of the Munster championship.

February 7th:

U-14’s Remain Unbeaten:

A comfortable 5-15 to 2-5 victory over Rosscarbery saw our U-14 footballers qualify for the play-off stages of the Cork Schools championship today.

Stephen Best in Ireland:

Stephen Walsh from 5th Year today won the Irish schools National indoor archery championship in Dublin. He adds this title to the outdoor title that he won during the summer.

Fine Performance from Leaving Cert Science Quiz Team:

Our Leaving Cert science quiz team put in a good showing tonight in the Munster Schools' competition, chalking up a fine third place. The event took place in the Rochestown Park hotel. Team: Cathal O' Lionáird; Mark Healy; John O' Connell; Pádraig Murphy.

Great Victory for Maths Quiz Team:

Our Leaving Cert maths quiz team took first place tonight in the West Cork section of the Inter-schools' competition. The team now goes on to the All-Ireland final, which will be held this year in U.C.C. on March 1st.

Table Tennis Team top of League:

A 4-2 victory over Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig today puts our table tennis team on top of Division 1 of the Cork Schools league. Team: Joe Kelleher, Robbie Lillis, Stephen Kelleher and Darragh Foley.

Our Transition Year students will be taking part in the school's annual Christmas collection today and tomorrow for the Macroom Charities Appeal. Please donate generously!

Great Victory in First Round of Examiner Quiz:

It's that time again! The First round of the Irish Examiner general knowledge quiz has commenced and De la Salle has made an auspicious start to the campaign with a decisive victory over Mercy Heights Skibbereen and Clonakilty Community College. The contest took place in Dunmanway tonight. Team: Seniors: Shane Murphy, Michael O' Herlihy and Steven O' Rourke (sub); Juniors: Brian Murphy, Daniel Cronin and Kevin O' Connell (sub)

The senior football team saw their last action of the season today when going under by a goal to Abbey CBS, Tipperary, n the second round replay of the Munster championship, played in Kilworth.

December 11th:

U-15's Fall at the Final Hurdle:

Despite a brave showing, our U-15 football team suffered their only defeat of their Munster Schools campaign in the final today. Played in Fermoy, the game produced a victory for Hospital of Limerick.

December 10th:

New Venue / Date for U-15 Final:

The U-15 Munster football final has been rescheduled for tomorrow, 11th Dec. The game will be played in Fermoy, throw-in at 1pm.

December 5th:

U-15 Final Deferred:

The U-15 Munster final vs. Hospital was postponed at short notice due to unsuitable pitch conditions. Watch this space for updates!

November 28th:

Thrilling Draw for Senior Team:

Our senior football team had a close shave in the second round of the Munster Colleges' B championship today when they came late to force a 2-7 to 2-7 draw with Abbey CBS, Tipperary. The replay will be held on Weds. Dec 12th.

Venue for Munster Final:

The U-15 Munster Schools football final between De la Salle and Hospital, Limerick, will take place on Weds 5th Dec in Kildorrery, throw-in at 1pm.

November 11th:

Last Minute Victory for U-15 Footballers:

Our U-15 footballers produced a thrilling win today in their replay against Kenmare Community School. The two teams proved how close they were by taking the game into extra time, and it was right at the death that De la Salle prevailed. They now progress to the Regional final.

October 26th:

Parent-Teacher Meetings:

A Parent-Teacher meeting for 5th Year students will take place in the school from 11am - 1pm on Weds, November 7th. A Parent-Teacher meeting for 3rd Year students will take place in the school from 4.15pm - 6.45pm on Thursday, November 15th.

Great Performances in First Year Blitz:

A football blitz for First Years was held in Ballincollig today, with De la Salle winning 3 games on their way to a narrow loss against Coláiste Choilm in the final.

Great Performance by Senior Footballers:

The first round of the Munster Colleges Senior championship produced a convincing 3-15 to 0-7 victory for De la Salle today, with Midleton CBS providing the opposition.

U-15's Snatch Draw:

Our U-15 footballers had a close shave today when they drew with Kenmare Community School in the Munster Championship. The game was played in Kenmare.

October 23rd:

Hurlers Suffer Heavy Loss:

Our U-16 hurlers were well beaten by Ballincollig today in the Cork Schools U-16 championship.

Open Night Approaches:

The traditional Open Night for prospective First Years and their parents will take place on Thursday October 25th at 7pm, with the Principal's address being scheduled for 8pm.

6th Year Parent-Teacher Meeting:

A Parent-Teacher meeting for 6th Year students will take place in the school on Monday next, Oct. 22nd from 4.15pm to 6.45pm.

34 of our students headed for Shannon Airport this morning en route to France to begin the first leg of the annual school exchange with Ecole St. Genes in Bordeaux.

Our U-15 footballers maintained their unbeaten run with a victory today against Mitchelstown CBS in the Munster Championship.

The first outing for the Senior football team resulted in a narrow loss today to St. Brogan's of Bandon in the first round of the Simcox trophy (Cork Colleges).

Our U-15 football team easily won their second round Munster Championship game today when they defeated Kilmacthomas of Waterford.

Football Year Off to a Great Start:

The school's football year got off to the perfect start today when our U-15 team scored a narrow victory over Youghal Community School in the first round of the Munster championship.

The school has won the West Cork Schools' golf championship, which was held today in Bandon golf club.

Whole School Evaluation:

The school will be be partaking in a whole school evaluation (inspection) from Monday Sep. 24th to Friday Sep 28th next. This is a routine process that every school in the country will be required to undertake. Further details are available from the office and teachers.

National Champion!

Stephen Walsh from 5th Year has won the Irish Schools National Outdoor Archery Championship, which was held in Bray during the summer. Stephen is also now an Irish International and is on the training panel for the London Olympic Games in 2012!

More Success with Cork!

The school's fantastic run of success with representation on Cork football teams continued over the summer, with Rory Buckley and Con Dunne from 6th Year winning Munster Minor medals and Tony Dineen and Jeremiah Kelleher from 4th Year winning U-16 Munster medals with the county.

Darragh Gains Honour:

Darragh O' Leary from 5th Year was presented with the award for the best log book in the G.A.A. coaching module from last year's Transition Year.

School Re-opens:

The school will open for new First Year students on Tuesday, August 28th, from 10 am to 12.30. The school re-opens for all other students on Weds 29th at the usual time.

Great Performance by Science Quiz Team:

De la Salle sent two teams to the Cork Science Teachers' Association Junior Cert Science quiz, which was held in Presentation College Cork tonight. One of our teams came very close to winning the trophy for the school for the second time, taking second place after a tiebreaker with Christian Brothers College. Presentation Brothers College won the quiz by one point. Our second team came a creditable 6th. Team members: Kevin Barrett, Seán Buckley, Mark Cullinane, Jeremiah Kelleher, Cal McCarthy, John McSweeney, Denis O' Leary and Daniel O' Riordan.

May 2nd:

U-14's Go Close:

Our U-14 football team lost out by 4 points to a much-vaunted Douglas Community School in the semi-final of the Cork Colleges B championship, played in Ovens today.

April 27th:

First Years Return from Italy:

The First Year group that travelled to Marcallo con Casone near Milan returned today after a wonderful week in Italy. Highlights of the visit included watching Pope Benedict XVI pass only six feet away in his Pope-mobile, seeing AC Milan play under floodlights in the San Siro stadium, a trip to the ancient city of Venice and a visit to the second largest aquarium in Europe, in Genoa.

April 18th:

First Years All Ready for Italian Adventure:

28 of our First Year students will be jetting off in the early hours of next Friday morning on their way to Milan, Italy. This is the return leg of the cultural exchange programme with the town of Marcallo Con Casone. Highlights of the trip should be watching AC Milan play in the San Siro stadium and a visit to the wonderful city of Venice.

Our Parents' Association annual table quiz for primary and post-primary schools in the region will take place in the school hall on Thursday next, March 29th, at 7.30 pm. A great night of fun, learning and prizes is assured!

March 23rd:

Fantastic Victory with Othello!

Our (mostly) 5th Year cast produced a wonderful success for the school tonight with their performance of Othello in the Cork Schools' Shakespearean drama competition. The event took place in the Cork Arts Theatre and pitted 6 schools against each other. This is our 3rd win out of four attempts in this contest and the school can now be justifiably proud of the wonderful tradition that is being built up in the performing arts. To add to the celebrations, Neil Muscheidt won the individual prize for best actor and John O' Connell won the prize for best director.

March 22nd:

Quiz Team Lose Out:

Our Irish Examiner quiz team went down narrowly tonight behind Coláiste Daibhéid in Round 3 of the general knowledge quiz. The event was held in Jury's Hotel, Cork.

All Set for Othello:

Our 5th Years are currently putting the finishing touches to their presentation of Othello, which they will perform in the Cork Arts Theatre on Friday night, 23rd March, at 8.30pm (all welcome). We have won this annual Shakespearean drama competition twice in the recent past and gone very close on a third occasion, so hopes are high for a hat trick!

March 21st:

Great Double in Table Tennis:

The school had a terrific table tennis double victory in Dunmanway today, where the U-19  team lifted the West Cork schools' trophy and the U-15's retained the trophy in the same competition.

We were handed a walkover tonight in the Irish Examiner quiz when our opponents, Presentation Convent Bandon, failed to show.

Italian Students Arrive:

A large group of students from Marcallo Con Cassone, near Milan, arrived in Macroom today to begin the school's second cultural exchange, which is linked with the Macroom-Marcallo twinning programme. A large group of our First Years will be travelling to Italy at the end of April.

March 2nd:

Bordeaux Exchange Begins:

13 of our Transition Year students began their journey this morning to Bordeaux to commence the first leg of the annual school exchange with Ecole san Genes in Bordeaux. They will be returning on Tuesday, March 13th.

Run Comes to an End:

De la Salle surrendered their Corn Uí Mhuirí title in a wind-swept Knocknagree today, going down on a 3-11 to 0-10 scoreline to St. Brendan's Killarney.

February 16th:

Details of Semi-final:

The Corn Uí Mhuirí semi-final against St. Brendan's will take place on Sunday, February 25th in Knocknagree at 2pm. It will be followed by the second semi-final, between Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh and Tralee CBS.

Our U-14 footballers remain unbeaten as they comfortably defeated St. Fachtna's Skibbereen today in the Cork Colleges' B championship.

Our U-16½ football team went under by a goal in the Munster Championship today against Mount Hawk, Tralee.

Senior Team on a roll!

The semi-final of the Corn Uí Mhuirí beckons after De la Salle handed Glanmire Community School a 0-16 to 1-3 thumping in Ovens today. We will next play St. Brendan's of Killarney in the semi-final.

U-16 Footballers Unlucky:

Our U-16 football team suffered a narrow 1-point loss in the Cork Colleges championship today. They lost to Mount St. Michael's, Rosscarbery.

January 12th:

Fine performances from table tennis teams:

Two teams from the school travelled to the Parochial Hall in Gurranebraher today to take part in the Munster Schools U-15 championships. Both teams reached the semi-final stage, only for their progress to be halted by teams from Coláiste Choilm. Team members were Robbie Lillis, Stephen Kelleher, Darragh Foley, Andrew Hegarty, David Dineen and Michael Browne.

January 11th:

Great Victory for Quiz Team:

A decisive victory was achieved by De la Salle tonight in the first round of the Irish Examiner general knowledge quiz, which was held in Bandon. We comfortably beat Coachford Community College and Presentation Convent Bandon to progress to the next round.

Draw takes place for Munster quarter-final:

De la Salle have drawn Glanmire Community School in the quarter-final of the Corn Uí Mhuirí.

6th December:

Great Praise All Around for Panto Performance:

Highly entertaining, very funny, and impressively accomplished would all be deserved descriptions for the school's production of the Muppets' Christmas Carol, which had 2 performances today. Students from the local National schools were hosted by the school this morning, and this evening there was a performance for parents and the general public, all of whom were highly complimentary of what was a great night's entertainment. Congrats all around, Broadway here we come!

1st December:

Panto Ready to Roll!

The School's presentation of the Muppets' Christmas Carol is nearing the end of rehearsals and will be presented in the school hall to the general public on Wednesday 6th Dec. at 8pm. Tickets cost €5 for adults and €3 for senior citizens and students. Performances will also be made for primary schools on Weds. morning and to the students of the school on Thursday morning.

21st November:

Brilliant Performance in Cross-country:

A terrific all-round display saw our Junior Cert teams go to 2nd place overall in the West Cork Schools cross-country league. Our 3rd years filled 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th places in their section.

20th November:

Examiner Quiz Team Selected:

The school's team for the upcoming Irish Examiner general knowledge quiz has been picked. Team members are Shane Murphy, Stephen O' Rourke, Jeremy O' Sullivan, Stephen Down, Daniel Crowley and Kevin Barrett.

15th November:

Seniors Continue their Comeback:

Our senior football team defeated St. Fachtna's of Skibbereen in Ballineen today, winning this crucial Corn Uí Mhuirí game narrowly on a 0-11 to 1-7 scoreline. We have now qualified for the knock-out stages for the 2nd year in a row and have given ourselves a chance of a successful defence of the Munster title.

13th November:

U-14's Get Off to a Great Start:

Our U-14 football team made the best of starts to their Cork Colleges campaign today when they easily beat Ballincollig Community School on a 6-10 to 1-6 scoreline.

10th November:

Preparation for Christmas Panto Continues:

Under the guidance of Miss Groome and Miss O' Donovan, preparations are well advanced for the upcoming presentation of the Muppets version of "A Christmas Carol". Apart from exam classes, all years have an involvement and we just can't wait to see the show!

8th November:

Nail-biter Delivers a Much-needed Victory:

Our senior team came good at the third time of asking when they defeated Killorglin CC by a single point today in the second round of the Corn Uí Mhuirí. The score was 1-8 to 1-7.

6th November:

Parent-Teacher Meeting:

There will be a parent-teacher meeting for parents of 6th Year students on Tuesday next, between 4.15 and 6.30.

25th October:

Parent-Teacher Meeting:

There will be a parent-teacher meeting for 3rd and 5th Year classes on Friday next. Parents of 5th years are asked to come in between 10.45 and 12.30, while parents of 3rd years are asked to come in between 1.45 and 3.30.

18th October:

Good Victory for Hurlers:

Our U-16 hurling team won their first round game in the Munster C championship today, beating Deerpark CBS from Cork city.

11th October:

Seniors Defeated Again:

Our defence of the Simcox title (Senior Cork Colleges A) faltered at the first hurdle today when we tasted defeat at the hands of Coláiste Chríost Rí.

29th September:

Disappointment for Hurlers:

Our Senior hurling team was knocked out of the Cork Colleges C championship when they were comprehensively beaten by Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, Blarney.

27th September:

Disappointment for Champions:

Our defence of the Corn Uí Mhuirí title got off to a poor start today when our senior footballers were well beaten in the first game of the "round robin" series. St. Brendan's Killarney proved to be far too strong for us. St. Fachtna's Skibbereen and Killorglin make up the remainder of the group.

20th September:

G.A.A. Season starts with a bang!

Our first G.A.A. outing of the season was, unusually, in hurling, and it was a spectacularly successful one at that! We beat Scoil Pobail (Bantry) by 7-21 to 2-8 in the first round of the Cork Senior C championship. Our next opponents will be Blarney, who will undoubtedly offer stiffer resistance. Macroom man-of-the-match was Andrew Cronin.

15th September:

De la Salle Dominate in Cross-country:

A fantastic performance was given by our U-13 team today in the Muskerry Schools cross-country championship. We provided the first five finishers, in the following order: 1st Cathal Vaughan, 2nd Seán O Leary, 3rd Robbie O' Dwyer, 4th Darren Kelly and 5th Liam Kelleher.

Student Council 2006

The members of this year's Student Council are as follows: Tommy Lillis; Steven Casey; Con Creedon; Brian Mullen; Darragh Murphy; Neil Muscheidt; Daniel Sheehan; Michael O' Herlihy.

28th August:

Back in Harness!

School re-opens for new First Years at 9.30 am on Tues 29th August, and for all other students on Weds. 30th August. Yippee!

The school has been re-arranged a little this year. To make space for an extended computer room (which now contains nearly 30 computers!), the library has been relocated to where the Demo room used to be - this room has been radically altered, and the English teachers as well as the students will be delighted with it.

The technology room has been divided, and one section of the room will now be used exclusively for French. This will be of tremendous benefit with regard to oral/aural preparation etc.

13th May:

Fantastic Athletics Double!

It was another tremendous day for De la Salle in the South Munster track-and-field (part II) when we won two 1500m titles - Ciarán Ó Lionáird of 6th year easily won the Senior boys event while Tony Dineen of 2nd Year comfortably added the Junior Boys 1500m gold medal to the 800m title that he won last week. Both progress to the Munster finals next Saturday at the C.I.T. track.

12th May:

De la Salle Day Celebrated:

The feast day of St. Jean Baptiste de la Salle was celebrated today with mass in St. Colman's church.

9th May:

U-14 Footballers into Final:

Our U-14 football team defeated Carrigaline Community School today to advance to the final of the Cork Schools Plate competition.

6th May:

Fantastic Athletics Performances:

Tony Dineen from 2nd Year won the Junior Boys 800m track race in the South Munster meet today. Brendan Lynch, also 2nd Year, came in second. Colum Casey from 1st Year won the bronze medal in his event. All three progress onto the Munster championships in a fortnight.

Decent Showing in Chemistry Quiz:

A solid performance by our Leaving Cert chemistry team saw them place joint 7th of 32 schools in the annual Pfizer chemistry quiz tonight. The event, as ever, was held in the Pfizer social club in Ringaskiddy. The team comprised Jerry Cooney, John Corkery, Solamh Kelly and Alan Murphy.

Great Win for U-14 Footballers:

The youngest football team in the school got into the winning act today, beating the Patrician Academy Mallow to advance to the semi-final of the Cork Schools' Plate competition.

Footballers Lose:

The school relinquished its hold on the Cork Schools' U-16A trophy today when they were beaten in the semi-final by Coláiste Chríost Rí.

Table Tennis Loss:

Our table tennis team were defeated by Scoil Eoin in the final of the Cork Schools' division 3/4 cup in Ballincollig today.

Archery Champion:

A new string has been added to the school's "bow" by Stephen Walsh of 3rd Year. He has recently won the B section of the Irish Schools National championships in archery, which is a first for the school in this exotic and interesting event.

Italian Adventure Begins!

Over 30 of our First Year students travelled to Marcallo con Cassone near Milan this morning on the return leg of the school's new cultural exchange programme. They will be returning home in one week's time.

Great Effort but Major Disappointment for Senior Footballers:

The school's first ever foray into All-Ireland competition turned into a narrow, heartbreaking defeat in Dr. Cullen Park in Carlow today. Level at half-time with the Abbey from Newry, Co. Down, a storming start to the second half by the Ulster team was enough to hold De la Salle's late comeback. The final score was 1-10 to Newry, 1-08 to Macroom. Congratulations to the team on a great performance and to the fantastic support, which definitely won the noise contest!

29th March:

Table Tennis Success:

Team A from De la Salle today won the West Cork Schools' U-15 table tennis championship. On the way to the final we defeated Dunmanway Community College and Mount St. Michael Rosscarbery, before handing Clonakilty Community College a 9-0 drubbing in the final. The A team was Joe Kelleher, Andrew Hegarty and David Dineen. The B team of Dairis Sietinsons, Barry Murphy and Robbie Lillis were beaten in the 3rd and 4th place play-offs.

Change of Venue for Semi-final:

The All-Ireland football semi-final between De la Salle and The Abbey, Newry, has been switched from Portlaoise to Carlow. Throw-in will be at 3.30pm.

Great Honour for Seán:

Our 6th Year student Seán Kiely captained the Cork Minor team to victory today over Clare in the first round of the Munster championship.

U-16½ Team Unlucky:

A much-depleted U-16½ football team was defeated in the 2nd round of the Munster championship today by Kerry outfit Milltown.

The All-Ireland semi-final against Abbey C.B.S. of Newry will take place at 3pm on Saturday April 1st in Portlaoise.

Parents' Association Quiz Date:

The Parents' Association annual general knowledge quiz for primary and post-primary schools will commence at 7.30 pm on Friday next, March 24th.

History made - De La Salle are the Very Best in Munster!

A dominant performance by De la Salle saw captain Seán Kiely lift the Corn Uí Mhuirí in front of a fine crowd in Dromcollagher today, as we totally outplayed St. Flannan's College from Ennis. The final scoreline of 1-12 to 1-04 did not truly reflect just how superior De la Salle were, which bodes very well for the All-Ireland series to follow. We will be facing the Ulster Colleges champions in the semi-final, and most who witnessed the classy display today could well imagine the new Munster Senior A football champions following up to become the All-Ireland champions.

16th March:

Tension Continues to Mount!

As the clock ticks down to the Corn Uí Mhuirí final on Sunday, the school's collective nerves are beginning to jangle. This will be the biggest day in De la Salle's sporting life since the same event in 1978, when we were beaten in the final by Coláiste Chriost Rí. Beating St. Flannan's next weekend will give the school its first ever victory at the highest level of the game, and will also set us on the road to an All-Ireland series.

Throw-in will be at 3pm, in Dromcollagher, Co Limerick (through Kanturk, onto Freemount and then into Dromcollagher. Turn left at the village).

15th March:

4th Years Make Presentation of Cheque:

On behalf of the Transition Year class, Michael Foley today handed over a cheque for €1800 to Mr. Dick Dineen of the Cork Chernobyl Project. The money had been raised by the students on a sponsored hill walk.

French Visitors Arrive:

Students and teachers from Bordeaux arrived this morning on the annual exchange, and will be staying with host families for 12 days. Our students visited Bordeaux last October.

Italian Visitors Arrive:

38 students from Marcallo con Cassone in Northern Italy arrived today as part of a cultural exchange with our school. They are staying for two weeks. In May, a group of our 1st Year students will be travelling to Italy on the return leg of the visit.

Our U-14 football team was beaten today by Coláiste an Chroí Naofa, Carraig na bhFear,in the second round of the Cork Colleges football championship.

Stunning Victory for Senior Footballers!

Sunday was a singular day in the history of the school as our senior football team progressed to the final of the Corn Uí Mhuirí (Munster Colleges' Senior A championship) for the first time in 28 years. The 1-12 to 2-5 victory over St. Fachtna's Skibbereen also gave De la Salle the Cork Colleges' senior A title. Paul Healy accepted the trophy as team captain and Seán Kiely was given the man-of-the-match award. The final of the Corn Uí Mhuirí will take place in Dromcollagher, Co. Limerick, on Sunday March 19th.

The atmosphere in the school is becoming ever more excited as the countdown to the Corn Uí Mhuirí semi-final against Skibbereen continues. Throw-in will be at 2.30 pm in Dunmanway. The game will double as the final of the Cork Senior championship.

Fine Showing in U.C.C. Engineering Quiz:

DLS gave a good account of themselves in the U.C.C. organised engineering quiz today. The quiz was based on maths and physics, and our boys came in 5th place out of 23 schools, winning themselves an MP3 player each. The team was John Corkery, Jim Finn, Neil Murphy and Solamh Kelly.

U-16½ Team Make Their Mark:

The U-16½  football team began their Munster Schools campaign with a victory over Carraig na bhFear today.

Brilliant Victory for Cross-country Team:

De la Salle are Munster Junior Cross-country champions. The team of Brendan Lynch, Tony Dineen, Stephen Down, Mark Long, Christopher Flanagan and Grant Fleming came in first overall in the gruelling event. The lads now travel to Dublin City University on Sunday week to take part in the Irish finals.

Table Tennis Team Unlucky:

The visit from Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig saw DLS beaten on a narrow 4-2 margin today.

1st February:

Dramatic Victory in Corn Uí Mhuirí Quarter Final:

Our Senior team had a nail-biting one-point victory in the ¼-final of the Corn Uí Mhuirí today, beating Dingle CBS in Killarney on a 0-12 to 1-8 scoreline. The semi-final will be played in Dunmanway on February 26th, throw-in at 2.30 pm. St. Fachtna's of Skibbereen will  provide the opposition.

Great Performance by Cross-country Team:

Some terrific individual runs by Brendan Lynch (2nd overall) and Tony Dineen (4th overall) gave De la Salle overall second place in the South Munster Cross-country Junior boys championship today. Other team members included Mark Long, Stephen down, Cal McCarthy and Christopher Flanagan.

A 5-1 defeat of Scoil Eoin in Ballincollig sees DLS qualify for the semi-final of the Division 3/4 Schools Cup. They will meet Clonakilty Community School.

A fantastic performance by Ciarán O Lionáird in Boston today has earned him a sports scholarship to Michigan University. He came in a brilliant second place in the Boston Invitational indoor mile event.

School Makes Simcox final for 3rd Successive Year:

De la Salle earned a shot at defending their Cork Colleges' U-16 A title when they beat St. Colman's Fermoy in the semi-final of the Simcox trophy. Coláiste Chríost Rí will provide the opposition in the final.

Examiner Quiz Team Bow Out:

Our team failed to progress to the next stage of the Irish Examiner general knowledge quiz when they came third to Clonakilty Community School in tonight's heat in Dunmanway.

The draw for the knockout stages of the Corn Uí Mhuirí was made today and pitted DLS against Dingle CBS, with the game to be played on Feb 1st in Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney.

Despite having home advantage, our Irish Examiner quiz team failed to capitalise and came in second to Coláiste Treasa Kanturk tonight. They will get a second chance to qualify however.

The end-of-term exams begin today for Transition Year students, as they will be on Christmas collection duties next week. Leaving Cert exams begin on Friday next, while the remainder of the students will begin on Monday.

Our U-16 footballers had a tremendous 2-12 to 2-6 victory over Coláiste Choilm today in the first round of the Simcox trophy (Cork Colleges' U-16 A championship). The school has won this trophy for the last 2 years.

Our U-15 footballers had to settle for a stalemate in their Munster Colleges' clash with St. Declan's of Waterford today. The game was played in Youghal.

Our table tennis team had a resounding 6-0 win over St. Brogan's of Bandon today. The game was played in De la Salle's hall. Team members are Joe Kelleher, Andrew Hegarty, Dairis Sietinsons, David Dineen, Robbie Lillis and Seán Curtin.

De la Salle into the Quarter Finals

Macroom's Senior football team had a narrow 0-8 to 0-7 victory against St. Fachtna's from Skibbereen in Ballineen today. The victory has already given Macroom a place in the quarter finals of the Corn Uí Mhuirí , despite De la Salle still having to play one more game in the qualification stages.

Our U-15 footballers had a runaway victory today against Mayfield Community College in the Munster Colleges' championship.

Back in the Big Time!

Today saw the school's return to Corn Uí Mhuirí senior championship football for the first time in many years. The game, Played in Ballincollig against Glanmire Community School, saw De la Salle come with a late surge to win on a 1-16 to 3-7 scoreline. The two other schools in our group are St. Fachtna's, Skibbereen and Coláiste na Sceilge, Caherciveen.

4th October:

Off to Bordeaux:

20 of our students, from 4th Year and 2nd Year, set off to Dublin airport early this morning to catch a flight to Bordeaux in France. So begins our 12th annual French exchange.

Open Night:

The Open night for prospective 1st Years in 2006/7 will take place on October 20th, commencing at 7 pm.

Terrific Success in Essay Competition:

5 students from 6th Year were honoured in U.C.C tonight. An essay competition, organised by the Law Society in U.C.C., had 10 prizes on offer to schools all over Munster. De la Salle students won an astonishing 5 of these 10 prizes. As well as a certificate to commemorate their achievement, each of the students won 200 euro in cash. The students were Duane Linde, David Ring, Aaron Harrison, Solamh Kelly and Ciarán O Lionáird.

U-15 Victory:

The new football season got off to a flyer today with an easy victory for our U-15 team in the Munster Schools' championship. We defeated St. Paul's from Waterford on a 4-18 to 1-4 scoreline.

Olympic Bronze for Ciarán:

Ciarán Ó Lionáird produced a fantastic run in the European Youth Olympics held in Italy today, coming third in the 1500m event, just one second behind the winner.

Ciarán Second:

Ciarán Ó Lionáird was a gallant runner-up in the Senior Boys All-Ireland Schools' 1500m at Tullamore today. He later received the consolation of being selected on the Irish team for the European Junior Championships.

After many years of outstanding service to the school, Mr. Brendan Kenneally has announced that he will be retiring at the end of this school year. Mr. John Murphy is to replace Mr. Kenneally in the position of Deputy Principal.

Great Victory for Ciarán:

Ciarán Ó Lionáird from 5th Year continued on his winning ways today by taking the Senior Boys 1500m title at the Munster Schools' track & field championships. He will now represent the school in the All-Ireland event in Tullamore on June 4th. Ciarán was also second in the Senior Boys 800m Munster final.

Great Success at South Munster Athletics:

De la Salle had a very successful day at the South Munster track and field athletics championships today. Ciarán Ó Lionáird had a runaway victory in the Senior Boys' 1500m race and the 1st Year relay team had a comfortable win in the Minor Boys' 100m relay.

A long winning streak for our U-14 footballers came to a halt in Coachford today when they were well beaten by the Patrician Academy, Mallow, in the Cork Colleges' final.

A great 12 point victory over Youghal CBS today saw our U-14 football team through to the Cork Colleges' final.

De la Salle Day:

The school will have its annual celebration of the feast day of St. Jean Baptiste De la Salle on Friday, 13th May. Mass will begin at 10am.

Graduation Mass:

The graduation mass to formally bid farewell to our 6th Year students will be held on Tuesday, 17th May.

The absence through injury of some talented forwards probably cost De la Salle their chance to reach the U-16½ Munster School's final today. The team was unlucky to be beaten by 2 points by Clonmel CBS.

The school retained its Cork Colleges' U-16 A championship title today when they defeated Coláiste Chríost Rí in the final. The scoreline was De la Salle Macroom 1-11, Coláiste Chríost Rí 1-07.

De la Salle took 2nd and 3rd places in the West Cork Table Tennis Schools' Cup in Dunmanway today. The  members of the teams were: Team A (3rd place) - Joe Kelleher, Daniel Downey and Denis Quinlan; Team B (2nd place) - Andrew Hegarty, Jeremiah Kelleher and Greg Barrett.

First Year Team into Table Tennis Final:

Our First Year table tennis B team qualified today for the final of their division of the Schools' Cup. They defeated St. Brogan's from Bandon in a thrilling encounter that went all the way into extra games. The team was: Barry Murphy, Seán Curtin, Dairis Sietinsons, David Cotter and Robbie Lillis.

Our U-16 football team defeated Coláiste an Rísigh, Ennis, today in the quarter-final of the Munster schools championship. The final score was 1-10 to 0-7 in favour of De la Salle, who now advance to the semi-final of a competition in which they will be defending the trophy they also won last year.

Great Victory for Footballers:

De la Salle conquered St. Augustine's' Dungarvan on a 12 points to 1-4 scoreline today in their first step towards retaining the Munster Schools' U-16½ football championship title for the school. Their next opponents will be from Ennis in Co. Clare.

The good work of our Transition Year students came to fruition today when 4 cheques, amounting to a significant amount of money, were presented to the representatives of various charities.

Our Irish Examiner general knowledge quiz team were unlucky tonight to go out of the competition, putting up a great display in losing to Ard Scoil Phobail, Bantry, by 6 points (effectively, one question).

U-16 Footballers Will Defend Their Title in Final:

Our U-16 football team beat Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh by 10 points today in the Cork Colleges' U-16 A football championship, played in Bishopstown. They will defend the title that the school also won last year when meet Coláiste Chriost Rí in the final.

U-14 Footballers Going Great Guns:

Having already accounted for St. Fachtna's Skibbereen and Carrigaline Community School, our U-14 football team travelled to Glanmire Community School today and came away with a 2 goal winning margin. They now play the North Mon Gaelscoil.

French Students arrive:

20 French boys arrived today to begin the first leg of our annual exchange with the De la Salle school in Talence, Bordeaux. They will stay for two weeks. Bienvenue à tous!

Ciarán Does it Again:

Ciarán O' Lionáird from 5th Year has hit the sporting headlines yet again. Last weekend he won the Gold Medal in the Junior Men's Indoor International 1500m indoor event in Cardiff, with a time that has qualified him for the upcoming European Youth Olympics and the World Youth championships.

Table Tennis Teams Beaten:

Our First Year A and B table tennis teams travelled to Scoil Eoin in Ballincollig today. Despite putting up a good show, both teams unfortunately lost.

Great Victory for Quiz Team!

Our team in the Irish Examiner Schools' general knowledge quiz had an excellent win last night in Jury's Hotel. The defeated opposition were Clonakilty Community College and Regina Mundi from Cork. The team now progress to the next round. Team members are: Jerry Cooney, Peter Lucey, Andrew Farrow, Shane Murphy, Steven O' Rourke and Jeremy O' Sullivan.

Table Tennis Team Defeated:

Our First Year table tennis "A" team had their first competitive match today against Midleton College. The lads put up a fine performance, being unlucky to lose out by 4 games to 2. The team is Jeremiah Kelleher, Andrew Hegarty, Greg Barrett, Kevin Barrett and Cal McCarthy.

School Treated to Christmas Presentation:

A feast of Christmas song and drama was put on today by students from 4th and 3rd Years, with the entire school population in rapt attendance.

Remma to Open the Show for Morrissey:

Remma will travel to Earl's Court in London today to perform as the opening act for superstar Morrissey (of The Smiths fame). They will also open his show in the Point Theatre next week.

First Years Lose on Table Tennis Debut:

In their first venture into the world of inter-schools' table tennis, our 1st Year "B" team lost 5 games to 2 today against St. Angela's College. The next outing will be for the "A" team, who play Midleton College on Friday 14th January. The members of the B team are Seán Curtin, Dairis Sietinsons, Barry Murphy, Robbie Lillis and David Dineen.

Congratulations to Ciarán O ' Lionáird from 4th Year, who won the Intermediate boys All-Ireland 1500m championship in Tullamore today.

First Years Have a Great Day in Trabolgan:

The 1st Year outing to Trabolgan proved to be most enjoyable for the lads, who took part in go-karting, quad bike riding, zip-wiring, swimming, crazy golf, crazy golf, orienteering and outdoor soccer.

Presentations Made to Transition Years:

The 4th Year students received their Transition Year certificates today, together with other awards that they gained throughout the year.

First Year Hurling Blitz:

Some of our 1st Year students will be involved in a hurling blitz tomorrow, Wednesday. On Thursday, all of the 1st Years will be going away on an outing to Trabolgan.

Ciarán Munster Champion:

Ciarán O ' Lionáird had a very easy victory in the Munster Schools' Intermediate 1500 m final today, drawing more than 100 yards clear of the second placed athlete. He now goes on to the All-Ireland championship, to be held in Tullamore in a fortnight. Ciarán also ran a great race to come second in the 800 m race, in a full 3 seconds inside his personal best time and also inside the old Munster schools record.

U-16 Team Save the Best for Last:

The very last action on the football front for the year turned out to be a moment to savour today when our U-16 team won the Cork Colleges A final, the first ever A title that the school has won. A 4 point defeat of St. Fachtna's Skibbereen brings a moment of true satisfaction and joy to the school and to the whole community. It's great to be the best!

The by-now annual publication of statistics regarding Third Level participation has again demonstrated how successful the school is in this area. De la Salle College ranks as 6th out of 90 schools in Cork city and county.

 

19th May:

Great Win for U-16½ Team:

Our U16½ football team had a brilliant victory in the Munster Colleges final today, defeating Newcastle West from Limerick on a 2-17 to 2-9 score line.

17th May:

Graduation Night:

The graduation mass and ceremony for our Leaving Cert students will take place next Thursday evening, commencing at 8 pm. Leaving Cert students and their parents are invited to attend.

15th May:

Great Performances in Athletics:

Ciarán Ó Lionáird had an easy victory in the South Munster U-17 1500m race today, in a very fast time. He now goes onto the Munster Championships, which takes place next Saturday in the C.I.T. athletics track. Stephen O' Rourke from First Year was an unlucky third in the100m race, and also qualifies for the Munster championships next Saturday.

14th May:

Great Win for U16½ Team:

Our U16½ football team are into the Munster final, after a comprehensive 17 points to 4 win over Carrigaline Community School today. The final will take place next Wednesday in Mallow, throw-in at 1 pm. Newmarket West from Limerick will provide the opposition.

12th May:

De la Salle Day:

The annual celebration of De la Salle day will take place on Friday next. Mass will be held in St. Colman's church at 10 am.

De la Salle on LTV:

A report on the year in the school will be presented on Local TV tonight. The LTV camera crew were filming in the school yesterday morning.

Charity Walk:

The 1st and 2nd Year walk in aid of Our Lady's Hospital Crumlin will take place on Thursday 20th May.

11th May:

Junior Cert Science Team Do Well:

Our 3rd Year representatives performed with distinction in the Cork Science Teachers' Association's Junior Cert science quiz tonight. Despite a slow start, the lads made up ground throughout the contest, eventually finishing in 6th place with a fine score of 54 out of 60 points.

6th May:

U-16½ Football Fixture:

The semi-final of the U16½ Munster Colleges championship will be held on Friday next at 1.30 pm in Ovens. Carrigaline Community School will be our opponents.

8th May:

Tremendous Victory for Ciarán:

Ciarán Ó Lionáird had a fine victory in the South Munster Schools Athletics championships today, winning the U-17 800 m race. Next weekend, he will take part in the  Munster championships, along with several other athletes from the school.

5th May:

Brilliant Victory for Chemistry Team:

De la Salle won the Pfizer Leaving Cert chemistry quiz championship tonight, making it the second time in three years that the magnificent trophy has been brought to the school. The quiz was held in the Pfizer social club in Ringaskiddy. De la Salle won by one point from Coláiste Mhuire, Cobh, with St. Mary's Macroom in joint third place. The team members were Fintan Goold, Eoin Hyde, Aonghus ó Laoire and Connor O' Leary.

29th April:

Team for Chemistry Quiz Chosen:

The Pfizer Leaving Cert chemistry quiz will take place in Pfizer Social Club on Wednesday next. The team that will be attempting to claim the trophy, which was won by the school two years ago, is: Fintan Goold, Eoin Hyde, Aonghus O' Laoire and Connor O' Leary.

First Year Chemistry in U.C.C.:

The school will be sending a team of 4 First Years to compete in the Salter's Chemistry challenge, which takes place next Wednesday in U.C.C. The team members are: Joe Kelleher, Diarmuid McSweeney, Seán Moynihan and Steven O' Rourke.

21 of our students jet off today on the return leg of the school exchange with schools in Bordeaux, France.

U-16 Footballers Roll On:

Our U-16 football team won their Munster quarter-final clash with Mount St. Michael's, Rosscarbery, today, on a 2-14 to 2-9 score line.

Fantastic News for Colm Kelleher!

6th Year student Colm Kelleher is on his way to South Korea this summer to represent Ireland in the World Physics Olympiad. After taking part in a final exam the weekend before last, Colm has won his way onto the National team. The school community is thrilled with this singular achievement by Colm.

U-16 Footballers Shock the Kingpins:

Our U-16 football team took on and defeated one of the biggest names in Munster Schools football today, defeating the mighty Coláiste Chríost Rí in the Cork Colleges' A semi-final. It was a nerve-racking one point victory that propelled the school into its first "A" final in many years.

3rd April:

2nd Years Unlucky in Drama Competition:

Our Second Year production of scenes from Romeo and Juliet deserved better that it got in the Cork Arts Theatre tonight. Despite being regarded by most onlookers as head and shoulders above the opposition, the lads did not pick up the trophy, which has been housed in De la Salle's trophy cabinet for the last two years. Congratulations to all concerned for a great effort, particularly to teachers Mary Coffey and Tracey Groome. Special congratulations also to Darragh Murphy, who won the best actor award.
